DramaQueen for novel writers?

There have been several suggestions to open DramaQueen to novel writers. There’s a little discussion about this developing in the comment section at the end of our feature page.
Our ‘home’ is filmmaking – therefore we’ve developed DramaQueen for filmmakers – and this will remain our first priority. At this point we’re working exclusively towards accomplishing our 1.0-version for the development and writing of film scripts, meeting all requests and requirements. In the medium-run we are open to a possibly developing call for a prose-version within the community. (But we’d like to stress that this is not going to happen very soon as our current primary concern is to focus on scriptwriting and film).

That’s why we’d like to use this space to collect feedback and swap ideas with prose writers. Since we’ve only got personal prose writing experience we’d be very interested in some sort of ‘wish list’ regarding which adaptations and features would be especially useful for novel and short story writing and what these could look like. We’ve already received some specific implementation ideas for DramaQueen PROSE: suggestions like ‘chapter’ structuring, linked note-boxes for individual chapters, formatting in standard pages or a form of scope- and workload management.
Should there be any other ideas, please, add them via the comment feature at the bottom. It would be great to create a shared vision of active prose writers that will eventually become a practical and inspiring working tool! (Of course, it is also possible to write to us directly, if that’s what you prefer!)

BETA 7

DramaQueen BETA 7 got released just in time for Christmas!

An overview of the major BETA 7 improvements:

New export features:
There are new export options and the export quality has been strongly improved:
• The user can now not only export scripts but also export the synopsis and treatment into all available file formats.
• The export of Word (.docx), Word 97-2003 (.doc) as well as Rich Text Format now reaches very high standards: The exported file almost matches the DramaQueen original. This has been a significant step towards our goal to make DramaQueen an open interface for all text formats.

Drag&Drop of texts is now possible:
Selected texts can now be moved via Drag&Drop:
• Within the text-panel
• Between different open text-panels
• Between DramaQueen and other applications like Word, LibreOffice etc.

New right-click features for your mouse:
• for the outline-panel
• for the text-panel

First Prospects

In the last couple of weeks we were often asked about the price of DramaQueen in its full version and about the difference between the basic and the full version. We would like to answer these understandable questions.
At this point everything is still in motion and our considerations and thoughts are on-going:
There will definitely be a free version and a purchase version of DramaQueen. The free basic version will be a fully functioning writing and formatting software – there will be no limitations to the number and length of projects nor will there be any time limitations on its usage. So basically one could compare the free version with the purchase version of e.g. Final Draft (on top of that DramaQueen FREE will be fully importable and exportable from and to other text formats like Word).
The fee-based full version on the other hand will contain the feature for dramatic story development (e.g. story-telling panel, the character panel, the plotline features, the use of structure models and plot-points, the switch between all 3 text-levels, as well as the analysis tools).

BETA 5

Inspired by the feedback, wishes and suggestions we’ve received, we made several features more user-friendly. Our objective was to expand the software’s complexity step-by-step and only as far as needed as well as ease the transition between text-levels.

The 3 most crucial changes are:

-At the beginning DramaQueen focuses on just one text-level (synopsis, treatment or script). The other two text-levels are only set up when the writer is ready to work with them.
Therefore the outline only consists of steps or scenes at the beginning. Should the writer start with a synopsis the outline will only contain steps; should the writer begin with a treatment or script the outline will consists of only scenes. The newly created main menu ‘levels’ now offers the possibility to set up further text-levels during the story development process. At the same time the outline’s second level will appear displaying steps and scenes.
